University Of Ghana Alumni Association Launched In Liberia
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana (UG), Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, over the weekend commended the newly inducted leadership of the University of Ghana Alumni Association (UGAAL) at the Royal Grand Hotel in Monrovia.
Amfo is said to be the first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana. According to her, the establishment of the University of Ghana Alumni Association in Liberia will strengthen the two countries’ bilateral relationship in education.
The UG Vice Chancellor also noted that the University of Ghana has been providing advanced education in Africa and is doing its best to provide a condusive learning environment to it learning populate.
She said her leadership has established the Institutional Advancement of the University of Ghana (OIA) to strengthen its alumni association across the globe.
She said since the establishment of the United Kingdom (UK) and United States of America alumni associations, UGAAL has stood to be the third alumni association established in the world.
The Vice Chancellor promised to support the workings of UGAAL in Liberia for the greater good of the University of Ghana.
She told the UGAAL leadership and guests at the event that she hopes the newly launched and inducted alumni association of Ghana will serve as a new beginning in the educational sectors of both nations.
For his part, the President of the UGAAL, Daniel Blamoh Nah, was excited for the establishment of UG alumni association in Liberia. Nah said the establishment of the UGAAL is a dream come true in Liberia.
He said in 2017 some like-minded alumni from the University of Ghana came together for the establishment of UG Alumni Association in the country.
The UGAAL newly inducted leadership’s mind is concentrated on strengthening the association continued growth and development. UGAAL boss also noted that the association is committed to upholding the highest standards set by sister associations globally.
According to him, UGAAL consists of seventy (70) members in Liberia, and expressed thanks and appreciation to those who contributed for the establishment of UGAAL.
Speeches were made at the occasion. The ceremony was well attended by officials of government and alumni of UG, and ended with a fundraiser. UGAAL collected close to US$2,000 and over L$50,000. About US$1,000 was made in pledges.
Officials inducted are Daniel Blamoh Nah, President, Uomah B. Witherspoon, Vice President, Garmondeh M. Yelbeh, Deputy Secretary General, and Paylay M. Halay, Treasurer.
