The Chairman of the Collaboration of Political Parties (CPP) and Standard Bearer of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander B. Cummings, has assured Liberians that the CPP will be a responsible party and they will exercise their rights under the Constitution, in the interest of the Liberian people; Mercy M. Kpaingbay writes.

Speaking at the accreditation ceremony of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) as an alliance, the CPP Chairperson, in his assertion, said he wants to assure the people of Liberia that the coming together of the four political parties is not for selfish gain but in the interest of the Liberian people.

“We want to assure our people that we want an exclusive alliance. We believe our country needs exclusive governance, and this is the beginning of a journey to ensure that our politics is civil according to the rules and laws of our Constitution,” CPP Chairperson further noted.

Also speaking at the accreditation ceremony, the National Elections Commission Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, stated that section 8.5 of the New Election Law lists the requirement for the establishment of a political alliance.

According to the NEC Chairperson, the requirement includes the procedure plan for an alliance, the name of each constituent, registered political parties, terms and condition of the proposed alliance, etc.

Lansanah noted that on July 10, 2020 the Unity Party (UP), the Liberty Party (LP), the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and the All Liberian Party (ALP) delivered to the National Election Commission an application of intent together with a resolution signed by an absolute majority of each of their executive committee members expressing their combined interest to form a political alliance, to be known as the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP).

“Following a thorough process, I am pleased to inform you that the proposed alliance by the UP, LP, ANC and ALP has met all the legal requirement to be a political alliance operating under the name, Collaborating Political Parties,” Lansanah stated.
