“Beware Of False Information On On-going Investigations And Asset Declaration”; LACC Alarms
The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission has cautioned the public to beware of false information on on-going investigations and asset declaration, observing that it has not issued any official statement regarding details of cases currently under investigation at the commission.
“Any reports or claims circulating on social media or other platforms that do not come from the commission should be treated as false and misleading,” the LACC noted in a press release.
The LACC urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, as this can compromise investigations and mislead citizens. “The commission remains committed to transparency, and will provide official updates in keeping with the law,” the LACC stated.
The anti-corruption group emphasized that, pursuant to section 10.9 of the LACC act of 2022, the commission is prohibited from sharing preliminary details or findings of any on-going investigation, and that the commission will provide information to the public only upon indictment by a grand jury.
“While we understand the public’s desire for updates, we want to reassure everyone that the LACC is doing everything possible to ensure that all investigations are carried out thoroughly and without bias,” the LACC release noted.
