Montserrado County’s district #8 Development Council Chairman, Emmanuel Sundaye, is coming under massive pressure to resign his post following allegations of corruption and abuse of office, brought against him by leaders of the communities of the district.

The allegation against Sundaye comes barely forty-eight hour following his hasty induction into office last Sunday.

Leaders of twenty two communities that make up the district said, prior to his induction into office, Sundaye received an amount of US$10,000 on behalf of all the communities for development purposes.

The money, according to the community leaders, was intended to help them set up their offices in the district to work with the chairman in advancing proposals that would boost the district’s development climate.

The spokesman of the group claimed that the new chairman, without remorse, converted the amount into his personal use, denying the communities the right to benefit.

Fofana emphasized that the action is an early warning to the public that Sundaye lacks the ability to steer the affairs of the district development council in a transparent manner, and should therefore resign to save his reputation.

The leaders of the communities also accuse the newly elected chairperson of their district development council of abuse of office and breech of the council’s constitution by unilaterally organizing his induction ceremony without the input of others.

The group claimed that the induction ceremony was hastily planned, despite earlier understanding that the chairman would only be inducted into office after all of the twenty two community leaders were satisfied with his performance.

The leader of the Jallah Town community, for his part, accused Emmanuel Sundaye of breaching the constitution by taking part in the race while in the employ of the government.

However, the community leaders failed to disclose the source of the US$10,000 and when it was given. Investigation continues.
