“Don’t Leave The Burden Of Education On Government Alone”–Dock Workers Prexy Tells Parents
The President of the Dock Workers Union, Moses Sheriff, is warning parents to stop the reliance on government for the education of their children. Sheriff said though government has shown enormous commitment to education over the years, it lacks the resources to deliver quality education without the support of the parents.
He emphasized the need for parents to work closely with government in formulating policies and programs that will help schools and other learning institutions to impart knowledge under a conducive atmosphere.
The dock worker president observed that many parents are reluctant to pay school fees and provide needed requirements for their children on time, thereby interrupting the academic calendar.
Sheriff, who condemned the parent’s negligence, encouraged them to compliment the effort of government by investing heavily in the educational development of their children.
He urged parents to see the education of their children as an investment that will bring huge benefits to the family in return.
He made the assertion over the weekend during a program making the closing and thanksgiving exercise of the S.M.S Muslim Congress Foundation School, held in Breweville, outside Monrovia.
Sheriff however appealed to the government to consider the provision of subsidies to some schools, if not all, as a way of promoting the process of learning in the country.
The trade unionist emphasized that schools are closing, especially in slump and rural communities, due to the lack of support to keep them running at the detriment of the youth.
Presenting L$30,000 to the school as initial contribution to its dormitory project, Sheriff lauded the administration for the wonderful presentation and performance by the students at the program.
