House Adjourns; Returns May
Members of the House of Representatives have adjourned for its 1st Quarter of the 6th Session of the 54th Legislature.
The 1st Quarter 6th Session of the 54th Legislature ran from January 16, 2023 to March 17, 2023.
Giving statistical reports on Friday, March 17, 2023 House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers disclosed the total number of sessions held were 26; number of sittings, 38; number of appearances, 12; total number of bills introduced, 13; total number of bills in committee room, 6; number of Executive bills in committee room, 2; number of Senate bills, 1; and number of petitions in committee room, 3.
According to Speaker Chambers, the total number of bills passed were 7 and the number of Executive bills, 7.
Dr. Chambers used the occasion to call on his fellow legislators to put the interest of the Liberian people first.
“Distinguished Colleagues, I will be remised if I don’t openly commend you for your role in helping to meet the needs of the people by demonstrating good practices and facilitating community development through various interactions and social cohesion,” Speaker Chambers asserted.
He urged lawmakers to remain constructive as they have always been, adding that history will definitely defend them for being a true voice of the people through positive representation, effective oversight and functional lawmaking.
Speaker Chambers added that the break is in fulfilment of the new blueprint for the Legislature, which provides that its break will now kick off from the third Friday of March to the second Friday of May each year. He stated, however, that the leadership will continue working while on break.
