The Bopolu City Corporation, headed by Mayor Zinnah Norman, has achieved a major breakthrough in its development drive by securing 250 hospital beds and procuring 700 solar lights from Italy for hospitals and clinics in Gbarpolu County. This breakthrough is seen by many as one of the major boosts for the “Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD)”.

The hospital beds and solar panels are already in the country awaiting subsequent distribution in the county.

According to Mayor Norman, the solar lights will be distributed in several towns and villages in order to help provide electricity for the people and electrify the streets. “We will continue to seek the interest of the people of Gbarpolu County through our own developmental initiatives,” he said.

Mayor Norman added that the Bopolu City Corporation is exerting efforts to have vocational schools constructed in the county to provide vocational and technical education for the young people.

Speaking to newsmen on Sunday, October 31, 2021, Mayor Norman disclosed that he has also secured a lot of educational materials for students of Gbapolu County, and anticipates making a trip to France to make a case on behalf of his county and the country at large.

He made the disclosure on Sunday when he was honored and gowned by the National Civil Society Union of Liberia (NACSUL) for clinching its prestigious “Most Outstanding Mayor of the Year 2020/2021” award, under the category of local government, which he dedicated to the people of Gbarpolu County. He then thanked the civil society organization for recognizing his effort, and promised to continue his work for the people of his county.

Giving the overview of the honor, the President of the National Civil Society Union of Liberia, Amos B.S. Kanneh, said the honor given to Norman, “Most Outstanding City Mayor 2020/2021”, was based on his hard work since President Weah appointed him to that position.

According to Kanneh, Mayor Zinnah Norman has continued to work in ensuring that Bopolu City is on par with other county capitals, evidenced by his effort to secure hospital beds, solar panels, school materials, construction of hand pumps, distribution of free medical supplies, cleaning of the city, among others. He stated further that Mayor Norman’s enormous contribution to the development drive of the county prompted their decision to give him the honor.

He emphasized that the Bopolu City Mayor deserves to be honored because he merits the prestigious recognition.

Meanwhile, Mayor Norman has called on the people of Gbarpolu County to be supportive to his work to move the county forward. He disclosed that the people of the county are in high gear to receive him and the items he secured from Italy, which will be taken to them over the weekend.

He, at the same time, thanked President George Weah for reposing trust and confidence in him to serve the people of Gbarpolu County, promising to always remain supportive of the President’s flagship development agenda.
