National Legislature Resumes Tomorrow
Consistent with Chapter 5, Article 32 (a) of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia, the National Legislature will on Monday, January 16, 2023 officially resume business for its 6th and final session of the 54th Legislature.
The Article provides that the Legislature shall assemble in regular session once a year on the second working Monday in January.
According to a Joint Press Release from the Press and Public Affairs departments of the Liberian Senate and the House of Representatives, the Chief Executive of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. George M. Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, officials of government and members of the diplomatic corps, as well as civil society organizations would grace the opening ceremony.
The release further indicates that the ceremony, which will begin at 10:00 a.m., will witness a grand march led by the leadership of both Houses of the Legislature from the Executive Mansion side.
The colorful program will also witness the hoisting of the flags of the country and the fifteen (15) counties by the Sergeant-at-Arms and their principal deputies.
The Senate and the House of Representatives adjourned their 3rd quarter sessions prior to the Christmas on December 8, 2022.
The joint release at the same time acknowledged that, following the resumption of normal legislative work members of the august body will give due consideration to the scrutiny and passage of the draft national budget that was submitted before the break and other human-sensitive legislations.
