Orange Makes Major Donation To Support Liberia’s COVID -19 Effort
Orange Foundation, which is the humanitarian arm of Orange Liberia, has made a significant donation to Liberia’s Covid-19 effort.
The foundation presented a large assortment of anti-Covid-19 medicines and materials to support the effort of five hospitals currently engaged in the Covid-19 fight, as well as to the Liberian Nursing Association.
The donation was made on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 when the foundation turned over the supplies to the various hospital representatives at the GSA compound in Monrovia.
Making the donation, the Executive Director of Orange Foundation, Sara Elizabeth Buchanan, reiterated that Orange has been a constant partner in the fight against COVID-19 since the pandemic hit Liberia in 2020. She mentioned that Orange Foundation was one of the first organizations to donate medical, as well as sanitation supplies and food to all 15 counties. She stated that this new donation, in response to the need of the health industry, was a part of the on-going effort of Orange and the Orange Foundation to support the Liberian government’s effort of curbing the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
She highlighted that the intent of the donation was to benefit a wide range of hospitals and health workers across the 15 counties.
Buchanan explained to the gathering of health-care professionals that the items were an initial contribution, and that the Orange Foundation would continue to make effort to support the health sector.
“We want to ensure that the designated hospitals handling Covid-19 cases receive this donation of medicines, PPEs and sanitation supplies,” said Buchanan. “In addition, we are partnering with the Liberian Nursing Association to ensure that nurses in need receive PPE supplies and other essential items to help protect them as they work in the frontlines throughout the 15 counties.”
The donation was received by the Minister of Health, Dr. Wilhemina Jallah, along with representatives from the ELWA hospital, the John F. Kennedy Hospital, the Phebe, Star Base, the 14 Military Hospital and the Liberia Nursing Association.
The recipients all thanked Orange Foundation and Orange Liberia for their contribution to the health-care sector, and stated that the donation would be used as intended. Dr. Jallah praised Orange Liberia for its continued support of the health care sector, and said that the donation will be used across Liberia.
“Everything we receive at the ministry we share with the counties. We provide some of the material we receive to the counties for onward distribution to hospitals in each county,” said Dr. Jallah.
