Rep. Julie Fartoma Wiah Crosses Carpet To CDC
Barely three weeks following President George Manneh Weah‘s historic fourth-leg visit to Lofa County, in continuation of his nation-wide tour of the fifteen political sub-divisions of Liberia, many strange political developments have begun to take place.
While in Lofa County, thousands of Lofains, other citizens as well as foreign partners joined in to give the Liberian leader a rousing and enthusiastic welcome, marked by traditional norms and cultural practices. But most interestingly a strange and unusual event unfolded while in Lofa County, as a renowned daughter and businesswoman of that county, now Representative for electoral district #2, Julie fartoma Wiah, who was accompanied by Kinsmen of her district, paid a special courtesy visit and tribute to His Excellency, President Dr. George Manneh Weah, Voinjama City. Representative Wiah announced her intention to cross political carpet over to the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), and assured the President of her unhindered quota to facilitate the many achievements and development initiatives of the 24th President of the Republic of Liberia.
While in that county, some questions were posted to the Lofa County lawmaker, as to what prompted her to declare her open intention to join the CDC government when, in fact, the National Patriotic Party (NPP), which is already a part of the tripartite coalition. “Let me tell you, Mr. Pressman, politics is not about gossip, but interest and people’s mindset, and so any number can win me over to the CDC, and this can happen anywhere in this world,” she replied.
“Therefore, it is not strange that I am a stalwart of the former ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP) of former President Charles G. Taylor, whose political party has since joined the Coalition with the CDC, under Vice President, Jewel Howard Taylor. And so I’ve no regret to announce publicly my cross carpeting to CDC, as we’ve seen and continued to see some meaningful socio-political and economic development currently taking place in our county, Mama Liberia. These include road connectivity, urban and rural reconstruction, etc., being high on the CDC’s PAPD taking place nationwide,” she explained.
Research findings have over the last three and half years revealed that, as the people’s Representative for Lofa County’s district #3, Representative Wiah has striven to propose bills and communications for the development of her district, in addition to constructing a headquarters in Vahun, providing scholarships and learning opportunities for citizens of the district, as well as empowering market women and reconditioning roads and bridges.
