Ongoing renovation on the Zolowee Public School, Nimba County, funded by ArcelorMittal Liberia, is nearing completion. The renovation, when completed, will give a new shape to the school building, which will be different and better  than its previous deplorable condition.

Zolowee Public School’s renovation is one of several corporate social responsibilities “Quick Impact Projects” launched by ArcelorMittal Liberia in late 2021.

It comes from the backdrop of an appeal by the school’s administration and local authorities of Zolowee Town, and an assessment of the condition of the school by ArcelorMittal Liberia.

After the assessment, the company announced in January 2022 a US$35,000 allotment for the school’s renovation, as well as supply of new school desks and armchairs, in addition to a consignment of school supplies for students delivered earlier.

Re-roofing and painting are already completed, with floor work currently on-going.

The principal of the school, Rufus Dahn, has expressed delight over the progress of the renovation.

Dahn explained that, before the support of AML for the renovation of the school and supply of furniture, the school lied in a dilapidated state, and was virtually empty with no logistics.

“Before AML came in, I met this place very bad when I came here as a principal. Now, I can say thank God for ArcelorMittal. Even the toilets have been renovated and everything is becoming fine on this campus, and I am happy,” he stated.

Principal Dahn expressed optimism that the renovation will be completed before the start of the new school year.
